Hello, I'm Melissa — an experienced, accredited therapist available in Canterbury & online.
I will work with you in confidence and without judgement to explore your past and present difficulties together and find ways to make positive changes.
Working together safely and carefully to understand and explore the root causes of your particular challenges, I can support you to move forward and feel better. We will always work at a pace that is comfortable for you with whatever issues or difficulties you feel ready to discuss.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
If you are highly sensitive, feel deeply, get overwhelmed by your emotions, or feel constant anxiety — you are not alone.
I can help you to understand yourself better, develop more meaningful relationships, challenge old patterns of behaviour that no longer work for you, and move forward to live a happier, more fulfilling life.
Together, we can begin to understand the neurological and environmental factors that have shaped you, how you have developed safety mechanisms and coping strategies to survive, and support you to let go of any that may now be holding you back.
We can examine current situations and relationships that make you feel anxious, emotional, or overwhelmed, and develop understanding of the roots of these feelings and awareness of the behavioural patterns they create.
I can support you to develop goals for the future, and find ways to achieve them. Together we can explore where you feel stuck, and safely and gently work to free yourself to make different choices and embrace change.
Your free initial conversation
This is a gentle introduction to each other, for you to tell me a bit about yourself and what has made you start to look into counselling, and to ask any questions you may have.
It will hopefully help if you are feeling anxious about starting the process, and give you an idea of what to expect and whether you feel comfortable talking to me. It's also an opportunity for me to get an idea of what you are looking for from therapy, and whether I might be the right person for you.
There is no pressure or obligation to go ahead and book a first session after this call.

My training & experience
I have worked with people of all ages and genders experiencing all kinds of challenges over a long career as a therapist. For the last ten years, alongside my private practice, I have worked within a university counselling service with young people, supporting them with a great variety of challenges including grief, loneliness, anxiety, lack of confidence, emetophobia, OCD and intrusive thoughts, self-harm, and depression.
A high number of the clients I work with are autistic, highly sensitive, or have ADHD or AuDHD, and this — along with my own lived experience with neurodivergence — has led me to specialise in this area, particularly with those who mask due to late or lack of diagnosis, and the profound challenges this can create. Many years of experience and training in working with trauma has been especially useful with this.
I have also worked in schools and for a domestic abuse charity and have extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual abuse.
As a Registered and Accredited Member of the BACP, I follow their Code of Ethics and work professionally and with integrity.
